Time to grab that leash: Apol’s Harley Davidson in Alexandria is hosting a Dog Days of Summer event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.

“It’s an event all about dogs,” said John Riek, an Apol’s parts employee and event organizer.

Dogs are not just welcome; they will be the guests of honor.

There will be demonstrations about off-leash obedience training as well as by dogs used in law enforcement. There will be rescue puppies and kittens for adoption and hunting puppies for sale.

“We will offer free hot dogs for lunch, of course,” Riek said.

The event, he said, does have a business purpose: “We may draw a different group of people from our usual clientele, people who have never been here before.”

But it’s also one near to his heart.

“I just love dogs,” he confessed. “There wasn’t a single vendor that turned me down. They were all very enthusiastic and said there isn’t anything like this that has happened in Alexandria before.”
