The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will recognize the top winners in the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship Program.

The 2020 application will open on Aug. 5 and any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen can apply on the Elks website, elks.org/scholars/scholarships/MVS.cfm. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. The deadline is Nov. 5.

The 20 top finalists will participate in an all-expenses-paid leadership weekend in Chicago where they’ll interview with the national judges. The finalists will be vying for two first-place awards of $50,000; two second-place awards of $40,000; and two third-place awards of $30,000. The remaining 14 finalists will receive awards of $20,000. The 480 runners-up will receive fifth-place scholarships of $4,000.

Annually, the Elks award college scholarships across the nation totaling more than $4.7 million, and have made more than $5 billion in donations since it started 151 years ago. Last year alone, the Elks donated approximately $420 million in cash, gifts and time to make communities better places to live.
