First Congregational UCC of Alexandria is asking for donations for Someplace Safe, the recipient of its monthly donation program for July.

The nonprofit, which helps victims of domestic violence, has seen donations to its program fall, yet its need has also been greater because of the coronavirus pandemic, the church said.

To help out, the church is holding its first-ever drive-thru campaign to fill its huge Bountiful Basket on Sunday, July 19, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the church's north parking lot. The church is at the corner of Seventh and Elm.

Pastor Jill Sanders and members of the church's Missions Committee will host the event.

As those asking for help from Someplace Safe often arrive with nothing, sometimes in their pajamas, the church said, it is asking for the following items: Regular size shampoo and conditioner, lotions, body wash for adults and kids, deodorant, kids’ tooth brushes and toothpaste, baby wipes, combs & brushes, tampons, shaving supplies for men and women, disinfectant spray and hand sanitizer. It is also accepting money or gift cards for specific needs.
