ALEXANDRIA — Seventeen bands walked down Broadway in Alexandria Sunday, June 26 showcasing their precision marching and musical skills to thousands of spectators.
The Alexandria Area High School Marching Band started the 38th annual Vikingland Band Festival, served as host to more than 1,100 band students from across Minnesota.
Waconia walked away with the Grand Champion award for the sixth time while Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg was selected as the People's Choice for the second time. KMS also retired a Class Champion flag by winning the Class A title three years in a row.
The weather cooperated for this year's event, with breezy, sunny skies and moderate temperatures in the low 70s.

Exhibition bands that played but did compete included Alexandria (host), River City Drum and Bugle Corps (honor unit) and Annandale High School Drumline (guest exhibition).
