In this episode, Echo Press Reporter Karen Tolkkinen talks about her love of writing and the curiosity that brought her around the country.
Reporter Karen Tolkkinen grew up in Plymouth, Minnesota, graduated from the University of Minnesota with a journalism degree in 1994. Driven by curiosity and a desire to learn about the United States, Karen Tolkkinen has covered local news from Idaho to New Hampshire to Alabama and landing at the Echo Press in Alexandria in 2017.
Along the way, she married a great guy, had a baby, baked bread for a farmer's market, ran a women's magazine, and learned to garden. She is passionate about journalistic ethics and fighting disinformation.
Stories and issues she has covered during her journalism career include: Migrant labor, poverty, child brides and grooms, a controversial treatment for Lou Gehrig's disease, and lake health.
