The Carlos Happy Helpers 4-H Club had a great day launching rockets for its 4-H project Sunday night, Aug. 4.

The club meets monthly in Miltona and is always excited to see new members, according to a parent, Julie Klopp.

Some of the children will be showing livestock and animals at the Douglas County Fair this week. Some of the children create art and other projects.

“The rocket launch was a really exciting group project,” Klopp said, adding that the club also met for its pre-fair meeting that day.

A lot of people assume that 4-H is focused only on animals but members are also involved in other activities as well, Klopp said. The Happy Helpers, for instance, is also active with an Easter event in Carlos, takes on service projects, serves customers at the 4-H building during the fair, and helps to clean the fairgrounds before visitors come.

The Douglas County Fair gives members a chance to showcase their work and advance in competitions.

“Come out and see what 4-H is all about!” Klopp said. “We are really looking forward to qualification to the Minnesota State Fair.”
