Bob Erickson, who has traveled to Alaska many times over the past 30 years, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter 428 of St. Cloud are offering a chance for three veterans to visit Alaska for free.
Veterans must be recommended by a veterans organizations or other civic or promotional group through a 300-word nomination letter explaining why the veteran is deserving.
The trip will take veterans from Homer to Fairbanks. They will exper- ience glaciers, a commercial gold mine, Iditarod mushers and dogs, Alaska fur exchange, Alaska aviation museum, other museums, wood carvers, knife carvers, fishing and more.
The trip will be filmed, and a DVD will be made. The DVD and stories from the veterans will be used to raise funds to send future veterans to Alaska.
Tentative departure is late August or early September. Nominations will be accepted through July 15. Three veterans and two alternates will be chosen. Participants must be able bodied.
