Through the My Favorite Book program, 6-year-olds in Alexandria received a book about positive character-building traits titled My Favorite Book. The program is sponsored by area businesses.
The full color book is organized into stories concerned with teaching positive citizenship values to youngsters.
The core-character building traits covered include the importance of family, taking personal responsibility, kindness, compassion, cooperation, honesty, gratitude, self-respect and respect of others, including a strong anti-bullying message.
Along with the book is access to an interactive website, www.myfavoritebookland.com, incorporating the themes of the book. Included in the book is a parent guide explaining the values, with family discussion topics.
My Favorite Book is distributed to thousands of children statewide. The Ambassador Company organizes its distribution by working with fire departments, libraries, police departments, nursing homes, churches and schools.
Home-schooled 6-year-olds may pick up a copy of the book by contacting Zion Luther School, St. Mary's School or New Testament Christian School, all in Alexandria.
