The 3rd annual Jeans and Jewels Gala event, sponsored by the Alexandria Schools Education Foundation, was held on Friday, September 23 and was a huge success, raising more than $40,000 for the Foundation!
More than 150 "206 Club" members attended the event at the Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria, many of them dressing in "retro" attire to coincide with this year's theme.
This event is held in appreciation for 206 Club members who annually donate $206 to the foundation. It is also a fundraiser, featuring a silent auction and other sponsored events.
Jewelry prizes with a cumulative retail value of nearly $5,000 were awarded throughout the evening, with 13 club members going home wearing "bling."
Special event winners included Joni Jacobson - $100 from a "Wine Pull" event; Kyle Diekman - 42" flat screen TV by naming "The Favorite TV Show," and Mike Scarborough picking the correct "Password" to win a laptop computer.
Jill Wagner and Judy Backhaus were co-chairs of the event. Committee members included Lori Canavati, Christine Reilly, Amy Wensman and Maureen Winger.
"It is so impressive to see the number of community members that continually support our schools and students," Wagner noted. "Having nearly 200 206 Club members is awesome!"
Anyone who would like to support education in District 206 schools is invited to become a 206 Club member. Last year, more than $23,000 in grants were awarded by the Foundation board to teachers who submitted proposals that demonstrated innovation in the classroom.
