Shelter Programs
The counties of Pope, Grant, Traverse, and Stevens County, MN have been chosen to receive $11,200 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the counties for Phase 37 Funding, and $15,548 in CARES Act Supplemental Award. EFSP funds are federal funds made available through the US Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. Funding levels are determined by the federal based employment and poverty statistics.
These funds will help to provide emergency food and shelter for individuals and families as well as assistance for rent/mortgage payments to help people stay in their current housing. Qualifying organizations are urged to apply.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local governmental or private voluntary organizations chosen to receive funds must:
• be non-profit
• have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit
• practice non-discrimination
 • have demonstrated the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
 • if a private voluntary organiza- tion, must have a voluntary board
A local board coordinated by West Central MN Communities Action, made up of representatives from various County community organizations, will determine how the funds awarded are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations in the area.
Please note these are two separate funds. If interested in both the Phase 37 funds and CARES Act Funds, two separate applications will need to be submitted. Programming requests for CARES funding must be designed to respond to the needs created by COVID-19.
Application forms are available at www.wcmca.org and can be submitted to WCMCA, 411 Industrial Park Blvd. Elbow Lake, MN 56531 or by emailing kellim@wcmca.org. Applications must be received by 4:30 pm, July 1st 2020.
