Public Hearing Publish August 3, 2022 NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO SECTION 4.01 AND SECTION 12.05 OF THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA The Alexandria City Council will conduct a public hearing at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022, in the Alexandria City Hall Council Chambers located at 704 Broadway. The purpose for this hearing is to consider amendments to the following sections of the Home Rule Charter of the City of Alexandria. ARTICLE IV – NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS. Sec. 4.01. Law Governing. All general laws of the State of Minnesota relating to elections and the preliminaries thereof shall, as far as applicable, apply to and govern all elections under this charter. The returns shall be made to the clerk within two days after an election under this charter. The council shall meet and canvass the returns and declare the result as appears from such returns the manner prescribed by state statute, and the clerk shall forthwith give notice in writing to the officers elected of their respective elections. A plurality of votes for elective officers shall constitute an election. When two or more persons shall receive an equal number of votes for the same office the election shall be determined by the casting of lots, in the presence of the council, at such time and place and in such manner as it may direct. Sec. 12.05. Vacation of Streets. No street or alley within the city shall be discontinued except by resolution approved by a four-fifths vote of the council.
