Josiah Gronholz's second straight hat trick part of 4-1 win for Alexandria boys at East Grand Forks

The Cardinals even their record at 3-3 after never trailing on the road against sixth-ranked East Grand Forks on Saturday.

Alexandria senior Josiah Gronholz followed up a hat trick in a 9-4 win over Sauk Rapids-Rice on Dec. 14 with another hat trick in leading the Cardinals (3-3) to a 4-1 win at Class A’s sixth-ranked East Grand Forks (4-4) on Saturday afternoon.

Gronholz scored less than three minutes into the game off assists from Brycen Berg and Brennan Lattimer. He added an unassisted goal near the end of the first period before East Grand Forks scored its only goal from Jaksen Panzer on a shorthanded opportunity in the second period.

Jack Lamski gave the Cardinals some insurance again late in the third period with a power-play goal off assists from Tyler Kludt and Henry Ramstorf. Gronholz finished off the hat trick with an empty-netter. Gronholz has a team-leading 16 points on 9 goals and 7 assists.

Teagan Pfeffer had 21 saves to earn the win in net for the Cardinals.

Alexandria goes to St. Cloud (2-4-1) on Thursday night for a 7:15 start in the final game before Christmas.
