The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency tells residents to follow a “less is better” strategy for salting surfaces. Salt is commonly overapplied and sends chloride into lakes, rivers and streams.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will resurface and make repairs to the Interstate 94 bridge in southwest St. Cloud in Stearns County. Drivers will encounter reduced speeds and one-lane traffic, in each direction. The work begins Wednesday, Aug. 31, and is expected to be completed in mid-October.
Most of the cost, 93%, will come from federal and state grants. The City of Alexandria will cover the remaining 7%, which will come out of the city’s Airport Development Fund.

The event will be held at the Douglas County Public Works Building, 526 Willow Dr. in Alexandria.
The U.S. Bicycle Route System is a network of numbered cross-country routes. There are over 18,000 miles of such routes in 31 states. The bike routes use existing paths separate from car and truck traffic, as well as roads, preferably ones with bicycle lanes or wide shoulders.

The study will include concept layouts, along with preliminary costs.
MnDOT has opened some roads, but there is a still a blizzard warning in effect until 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18.
