Fourth-ranked St. Cloud Tech too much for Alexandria

The Cardinals got top-five all-around scores from Ailynn Fettig, Amaya Hughes and Izzy Kent.

The Alexandria gymnastics team ran into a good St. Cloud Tech program on Dec. 23 as St. Cloud won a 143.375-137.025 final against the Cardinals.

Tech, ranked fourth in the Dec. 20 Class AA poll based on season scoring average, had the top two all-arounders in Taylar Schaefer with a 37.625 and Catelyn Zack with a 35.575. Alexandria’s Ailynn Fettig (35.350), Amaya Hughes (34.825) and Izzy Kent (31.900) finished third, fourth and fifth.

Sara Eddy added a second-place finish on the vault with a 9.425, with Fettig (4th, 9.275) and Hughes (5th, 9.00) finishing top five. Fettig was second on the bars (8.65), and Hughes was fourth (8.25) and Addison Twa fifth (8.2).

St. Cloud Tech had the top-four finishers on the beam, with Hughes leading Alexandria in fifth place with an 8.425. Fettig and Hughes were third and fourth, respectively on the floor with scores of 9.25 and 9.15.
