The stage play “Outside Mullingar” is the latest project of the Prairie Wind Players in its 40th anniversary year.
The production is set in a rural Ireland village, and is a story of family, farming and finding love later in life. It centers on two families who have farmed side-by-side for generations.
The cast includes two actors from Alexandria. Allen Alvig plays a spirited curmudgeon who is worried about the future of the farm if he leaves it to his son who has yet to have an heir. Cathy Snyder has just buried her husband as the play opens. She lends common sense insights into the vagaries of life, love and life’s end.
The play is directed by Kathy Ray, and the cast also includes Cody Mehlhaf and Annie Hildebrandt.
Performances are in the Barrett Roosevelt Hall from Thursday, Sept. 19, through Saturday, Sept. 21, with the curtain going up at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. The Friday and Saturday shows include dinner theater, with a menu of Irish Pub Salad, roast beef, roasted potatoes, carrots, Irish soda bread and apple cake for dessert. Reservations for dinner are required, and can be made by leaving a message at 320-528-2343.
