Nearly 60 student actors between the ages of 9-15 are ready to perform Disney's "The Lion King Jr." at the Andria Theatre starting Thursday.
This show is the second production this summer for students in the theater's Student Theatre Project. The first was "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
David Christman will again direct the student performance. He said the cast has "worked tirelessly" on the production.
"They have cleaned, painted, designed and created," said Christman. "All the while they have rehearsed and become family. Extra performances at Party in the Street, as well as this past weekend's Art in the Park, had the cast sweating and working together."
"The Lion King Jr." opens Thursday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. Performances will run through Aug. 3 and then again from Aug. 7-10, all starting at 7 p.m.
Based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor, Disney's "The Lion King Jr." has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world. The African savanna comes to life on stage with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again.
Christman said not only does the play have amazingly talented local kids performing, it also features incredible and mind-blowing costumes, as well as fabulous vocals.

"They are truly amazing and wonderful and I can't wait for the Lakes Area to see them turn it loose!" he said.
