The Radiothon to End Child Abuse will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 and continue for 26 hours until 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 on local stations KIKV-FM and Cool 94.3.

During this time, listeners can phone in pledges while human services professionals and community leaders discuss child abuse prevention and local resources available to parents and children.

The radio stations are also hosting an online auction of gift packages and gift certificates for meals, car care and other items. Bidding started on Nov. 26 and will end at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

Listeners can call 320-762-2154 to pledge and visit the radio stations' websites to bid. The radiothon also takes place simultaneously at stations in Bemidji, Brainerd and Wadena.

Last year, the Alexandria stations said they raised more than $40,300 during the radiothon. Of that, they keep less than 10 percent to cover expenses. The rest stays in Minnesota, split between Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota and local agencies. Donors can designate which county their money goes to.
