The Purple Hulls, identical twin sisters whose virtuosic banjo versions of old-time gospel songs have entranced millions of YouTube viewers, will perform in Alexandria at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Alexandria Covenant Church, 4005 Dakota St.
Katy Lou and Penny Lea Clark drew their name from the purple hull pea farm in Texas where they were raised. They perform high-energy bluegrass, country and gospel style music, both original music and covers.
The church will accept a freewill offering. Seating will be limited, so the church is asking people to reserve spots at alexandriacovenant.org. The sisters have worked on their craft in Nashville, writing for Sony and doing session work. They have also toured with the Quebe Sisters, a notable progressive western swing band.
The Purple Hulls tour Europe annually and opened for twice for Grammy-winning country music band Asleep At The Wheel.
