Schjei Country will return to the Alexandria Senior Center at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, for the center's weekly concert series.
Schjei Country, pronounced “shay,” is a small country band that plays old classic country and country gospel. It is made up of Karen Schjei on keyboard and vocals and her daughters, lead vocalist Louise Schjei Kahler on rhythm guitar, keyboard and fiddle, and Liz Schjei Plaster on bass, fiddle and vocals.
Karen and Liz are from Evansville and Louise lives near Garfield. All three grew up in Brandon.
In January, Henry Higgs from Osakis joined the trio with lead guitar, singing lead and harmony. He grew up in the Wadena area.
The group entertains mostly for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, family functions, church events, Christmas gatherings and barn dances. It last performed at the senior center in November.
The Senior Center offers live music every Sunday and a dance once a month. The program is free and open to all ages.
