Pure Country will deliver one last whoop for summer at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, during the final concert of the 2019 summer concert series on the Douglas County courthouse lawn.
With Gary Gylsen as lead vocal, Henry (Hank) Higgs on lead guitar and Dan Winter on drums and sound, the group says it covers songs from an era when country music had a lot of heart and soul, the 1940s to the 1970s. It plays the songs of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Hank Snow and others.
The band formed in 2003 for what was to be a one-night engagement, a New Year's Eve party at a small Parkers Prairie tavern. However, that one concert led to demand for more, according to the band’s website.
The free weekly concerts are put on by the coalition and start at 7 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
The concert series is sponsored by Anderson Funeral Home and Elden's Fresh Foods, and Thursday's sponsor is The Guitar Shoppe. Proceeds from popcorn sales support a new playground for Miltona Science Magnet School.
