Artists focus on works of art. They might also want to pay attention to "Work of Art," a series of monthly workshops in Alexandria focusing on business skills for artists.
Offered by Springboard for the Arts, an economic and community development organization for artists and by artists, the classes are aimed at visual, performing and literary artists. All classes will be at Grand Arbor by Knute Nelson, 4403 Pioneer Road SE.
- Career Planning: Thursday, Sept. 12, 5:30-8 p.m. It will focus on career planning, looking at where artists wish to be artistically and professionally. Participants will learn how to define their values, identify key choices and develop a plan to achieve career goals.
- Time Management: Thursday, Oct. 10, 5:30-8 p.m. Discover analytical and tool-based approaches to tackle hurdles related to efficiency, flexibility and work-life balance.
- Portfolio Kit: Thursday, Nov. 14, 5:30-8 p.m. Your portfolio is the core of your promotional material. Focus on the essential elements: sharpening the artist statement, tailoring artistic résumés, and selecting and formatting work samples.
- Marketing: Thursday, Dec. 12, 5:30-8 p.m. Define one's product, discover a target audience, make decisions about how to sell, and identify a budget and strategy for an artistic business.
