The big hats were back on Saturday at The Lure Lakebar in Alexandria for the annual Theatre L’Homme Dieu Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby Party.
TLHD’s fundraiser welcomed a day of pageantry on the outdoor patio where The Salty Dogs played music leading up to the running of the 147th Kentucky Derby. Attendees were encouraged to dress up with a sense of flair while sipping mint juleps, a time-honored derby day tradition.
Although the event does raise some money, it is more of a “FRIENDraiser than a fundraiser,” said Nicole Mulder, executive director of Theatre L’Homme Dieu.
“The Kentucky Derby Party is a long standing tradition for TLHD that is a bit theatrical in a sense – dressing up and sharing an experience – and it's always in May so it's the perfect kick off to our summer season!” Mulder said.
Spectators gathered around the televisions in the bar and restaurant areas for the fastest two minutes in sports. TLHD also awarded lucky individuals with prizes for the best hat, best dress and most creative attire. The Lure also donated 10% of food and beverage purchases to THLD.
