Scandal has erupted at the North Pole and Santa has been accused of a salacious crime. The reindeer have had enough and want to tell their side of the story.

You can find out what really happened in Fire Pit Productions' upcoming play, "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues."

According to Quincy Roers, who is not only the director but also plays the role of Dasher, as mass media descends upon the North Pole, the eight reindeer demand to share their perspectives and a horrific tale of corruption and perversion emerges, which seems to implicate everyone from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself. With each deer's confession, the truth behind the shocking allegations becomes both clearer and murkier.

The topics of the play, which contains "very strong language and adult content," are relevant with its "he said, she said," story, Roers said. Some of the reindeer are on Santa's side, while the others are not.

Katie Satterlie, who plays the role of Blitzen, said the script offered a little bit of everything.

"It will get people laughing and thinking about serious subjects, especially in today's political climate," she said of the show, adding that it might possibly change people's view of Santa Claus.

Satterlie described her Blitzen character as a very strong-willed feminist who might be a lesbian.

"She's very passionate about her work and the rest of the reindeer," she said. "She wants them to be treated equally."

This is Satterlie's first time on stage since high school, although she did have a part in the "Awesome 80s" show at the Andria Theatre, where she was office manager for about two-and-a-half years.

She loves theater, especially musicals, and is in a local band, Loose Canyon. Her desire to get back on the theatrical stage led her to say yes when Roers messaged her about the role of Blitzen.

"It was right up my alley," she said, although she admitted it was little nerve-wracking to memorize all the lines. "You think you're never going to learn them, but it's amazing how quickly you actually do."

Satterlie is looking forward to the play and said that even though it touches upon some serious subjects, the play is funny.

The play is a little special for Roers in that it was written for what he called "bar theater." Because of that, he partnered with the Corral Saloon and Eatery in Nelson and the American Tap and Eatery in Sauk Centre, and the play will be performed at each of those locations next month.

At the Corral, the play is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, while it will be performed at the American Tap at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21.
