Woman injured in Garfield house fire

A woman suffered serious burns in a house fire south of Garfield last Thursday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at about 10 a.m. that a house was on fire at 9355 State Highway 27 West. The Garfield Fire Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and North Ambulance responded to the call.

Jennifer Barrick, who was inside the home at the time of the fire, managed to escape but suffered burn injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. She was transported by North Ambulance to the Douglas County Hospital and later airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center.

As of Monday, she remained hospitalized and was listed in satisfactory condition.

The Brandon Fire Department also assisted at the fire. Firefighters were on scene for about three hours.

The West Central Minnesota Red Cross offered assistance to the victim.
