Here's a way to brighten the lives of others: Volunteer to help the local "Let's Go Fishing" program.
Let’s Go Fishing guests and volunteers say they're getting excited about the 2021 boating and fishing season. COVID-19 restrictions caused organizers to cancel the 2020 season, leaving many seniors, veterans, youth, and physically challenged disappointed.
Since 2007 Alexandria Lakes Area Let's Go Fishing has served 19,446 guests on 1,933 trips.
To continue this service, a strong volunteer base is needed, according to leaders of the program.
Captains and assistants for boating and fishing excursions this summer are also needed. The 90-minute trips are scheduled at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.
