Volunteers needed for Alexandria Lakes Area Let's Go Fishing program

Here's a way to brighten the lives of others: Volunteer to help the local "Let's Go Fishing" program.

Let’s Go Fishing guests and volunteers say they're getting excited about the 2021 boating and fishing season. COVID-19 restrictions caused organizers to cancel the 2020 season, leaving many seniors, veterans, youth, and physically challenged disappointed.

Since 2007 Alexandria Lakes Area Let's Go Fishing has served 19,446 guests on 1,933 trips.

To continue this service, a strong volunteer base is needed, according to leaders of the program.

Captains and assistants for boating and fishing excursions this summer are also needed. The 90-minute trips are scheduled at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.

"You can make a difference by volunteering and help bring smiles and outdoor enjoyment on the water to so many," leaders of Alexandria Lakes Area Let's Go Fishing said in a news release.

Spring training for all new and returning volunteers will take place Wednesday, April 14, at at 1 p.m. (for current returning volunteers) and 3:30 p.m. (for new volunteers) at the Legacy of the Lakes Museum Boathouse in Alexandria.

"Make friends, make memories, make a difference – attend our spring training," leaders said.
