Your car can’t run on empty. Neither can hospital blood banks.
This April, the American Red Cross is teaming up with INDYCAR to help refuel the blood supply and is offering a chance to win a VIP trip for four to the 2022 Indianapolis 500 to those who donate. Donors in April will also automatically be entered for a chance to win one of five $1,000 e-gift cards to a merchant of their choice.
The organization is calling for donors of all blood types, especially those with type O blood.
Schedule a donation appointment by downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.
The Red Cross tests blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. These antibodies may now help coronavirus patients who need convalescent plasma transfusions to fight the virus.

Donors can expect to receive the results of their antibody test within two weeks through the Red Cross Blood Donor App or the donor portal at RedCrossBlood.org.
Donation sites will conduct temperature checks and follow social distancing and face coverings guidelines. The Red Cross asks that those who are sick postpone donating until they are well.
