Roaring engines, crackling exhaust, and nostalgia filled the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Sunday, June 27 during the 33rd annual “Show and Shine” car show hosted by the Vintage Car Club of Alexandria.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and featured creatively re-built cars, some simply restored, and some that sat aged and weatherworn, but all show-worthy with an estimated 200-plus cars on display.

People of all ages soaked up the hot summer sun. They were able to grab a bite to eat from one of the multiple food trucks, buy a souvenir from the several available craft vendors, and admire the work of these dedicated car collectors from across the state, for free, as classic music played throughout the grounds where old and new collided.

With cars from the 1920s to the 2020s, the shiny vehicles just about filled the east end of the fairgrounds. From restored Model-As to muscled-up Mustangs and one car whose body was made of wood (probably the most expensive with the cost of wood these days), to brand-new Corvettes, there was a lot to take in at the “Show and Shine,” making it an event for anyone and everyone.

The show was held to commemorate the club’s 50 (plus one) years of existence. Members of the Vintage Car Club of Alexandria participate in car shows all summer long, from cruises to parades and other car showing exhibits.
