Senior Center to open its doors Thursday

The center has been closed for seven months.

Closed since the pandemic hit, the Alexandria Senior Center will once again welcome guests back for social gatherings and other purposes, although it will take steps to prevent the spread of COVID.

Its reopening will be slow, with only very small groups allowed to use a limited number of areas, which will aid in the center's cleaning effort. October's activities will focus on those without common touch points and that allow for easy distancing.

The center's library will be open and visitors can check out books and puzzles. The Quilt and Sew group will meet the first, third and fifth Friday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The Lorsung Art Studio will offer several classes and the Foot Care Clinic will be open on scheduled days. Other activities include bunco, card recycling and stamping, and billiards.

The center's nutrition service will continue to deliver meals via Meals on Wheels at least through the end of the 2020, in lieu of congregate dining.

Masks will be required, along with proper hand hygiene and social distancing. Visitors will find out about safety protocols before entering the building, and the protocols will be posted throughout the building.
