With a slight breeze and temperatures in the 70s, the evening was perfect for this year's Relay for Life of Douglas County event.

The Friday, July 9, event kicked off with the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. with a survivor lap with this year's honorary survivors – Tricia Buysse and Kennedi Hay, both of Alexandria – leading the way.

The luminaria ceremony is set to take place around 9 p.m. with the closing ceremony to take place around 11 p.m.
