The Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Minnesota (SOMN) is back for the 2015 season and registration is now open. With a new name, a new website, a new look and four new locations, the Polar Plunge is bigger than ever.
The Alexandria plunge will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 1 p.m. at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center, 2100 Arrowwood Lane NW in Alexandria.
Pre-check in will be held Saturday, February 28 at the Elks Lodge, 115 15th Avenue West in Alexandria. Day-of-the-plunge check-in will be held at the plunge site.
As plungers jump into frigid Minnesota water, they raise money to benefit more than 8,000 SOMN athletes.
In 2014, more than 510 people took the plunge in Alexandria and raised approximately $107,158 in support of SOMN.
To register, visit plungemn.org. Participants may plunge as individuals or in teams. They are also encouraged to wear unique and outrageous costumes.
Plungers should ask everyone from family to friends to pledge to their plunge. Each participant must raise a minimum of $75. The average plunger each raised more than $210 in 2014.
Plungers must check in on plunge day and bring their pledges with them. Shoes and a towel are required.
