Col. Kyle M. Riedel, a native of Parkers Prairie, retired from the U.S. Army on Sept. 30 after 35 years of service.

Riedel's military career included service in the Minnesota Army National Guard as an anti-armor infantryman in Wadena, a commission as a second lieutenant, and as a commissioned officer in Army Aviation and the Civil Affairs Corps.

He and his wife, Maija, took assignments in Korea, Hawaii, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Pennsylvania. Riedel also traveled extensively in east and southwest Asia, with multiple deployments to Korea, Singapore, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait and Cyprus.

Riedel graduated from the Army and Air Force Command and Staff Colleges and the Army War College. He commanded military units from company thru battalion level.

He was promoted to the rank of colonel in 2014. His final assignment was with First Army as the senior army advisor to the Wisconsin National Guard Adjutant General. Riedel plans to pursue a post-military career in the Pittsburgh area.
