Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria will host a "Farmers to Families" food drop at noon Wednesday, March 17, in its parking lot at 2702 Highway 29.

Funded by the USDA, the program is open to anyone regardless of income or residency. It is available in 13 areas throughout central and northern Minnesota, and is organized as a drive-through for pre-packaged boxes of food.

All boxes contain a vegetable, fruits, dairy product and meat, said Kristy Brown, a volunteer who is coordinating with trucking companies to deliver the food. The trucking companies work with produce companies who are contracted with the USDA, she said.

There is a limit of one box per family and three families per vehicle. At the Alexandria location, volunteers will distributed boxes until they are gone, or until 4 p.m. at the latest. They are asking people not to come before 11 a.m., as earlier arrivals will be asked to come back later.

All are welcome to the food drop. For more information, visit
