People of all ages gathered for a new event in Osakis Sept. 12. Joan Marsolek laughed along with curious customers who stopped by her tent. Muriah Adolphsen cheered as she sank a bean bag in the hole. Lewis Ries gawked at the trucks towering over him.

Since the rise of COVID-19 prevented the celebration of the Osakis Festival and Moonshine Madness, the Taste of Osakis was held instead from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Streets were sectioned off for attendees to stroll around from food trucks and live music to craft vendors and storefronts.

Osakis businesses have been impacted by shutdowns, reduced occupancy and slow sales as they work through COVID-19, so they presented the idea for this event to the Osakis Chamber of Commerce, said Cory Abers, chamber president.

“Our businesses are owned by our family, friends and neighbors,” Abers said. “We want to stand by these people and show them our support.”

Taste of Osakis Attendees of the first Taste of Osakis event found different activities to occupy their time Saturday, Sept. 12.
