The Alexandria Area Community Foundation recently awarded an additional $30,000 in grants from the Alexandria Response Fund to support local COVID-19 relief efforts.
In total, the fund has now granted $70,000 to help organizations and individuals during the pandemic.
The newest grant recipients are as follows:
$5,000 to support child care tuition assistance at the Alexandria Area YMCA.
$5,000 to support technology to help isolated seniors connect with loved ones through the Knute Nelson Foundation.
$5,000 to support bringing back furloughed staff preparing for re-opening at the Alexandria Senior Center.
$5,000 to provide housing support to individuals who have been impacted by COVID-19 through Life Connections.
$5,000 to support two summer food drops in the Alexandria area through United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties.
$5,000 to assist those in threat of homelessness to maintain their current housing through West Central Minnesota Communities Action.
The Alexandria Response Fund was established in late February after a downtown fire destroyed four buildings. The purpose of the fund is to help in times of crisis, such as the fires and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The AACF board of directors also made the decision at the end of April to suspend the yearly "Difference Maker" Grant round and instead put those dollars into the Alexandria Response Fund to support the needs of the community due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our community and these organizations are helping those most in need during these uncertain times,” said Holly Witt, AACF executive director. “The work of the Alexandria Response Fund is only possible through the amazing generosity of our community so we thank each and every donor for their support. There is still work to be done but we will get through it together."
