Lakes Area Professional Women, or LAPW, is bringing another heavy hitter into town for its annual EMPOWERED scholarship fundraiser.

Trent Shelton, a former NFL wide receiver, reaches more than 60 million people weekly through videos and other engagements, his website says. He is followed by 11.1 million people on Facebook.

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Shelton wrote “The Greatest You” and founded a Christian-based non-profit organization, RehabTime. He is also a regular speaker at the Hollis Co’s RISE conference, a three-day personal growth event for women organized by Rachel Hollis, author of "Girl, Wash Your Face." Hollis was last year's speaker at the LAPW scholarship fundraiser.

Shelton is scheduled to speak in Alexandria on Feb. 17, 2020 at the Alexandria Area High School Performing Arts Center. However, ticket sales begin Monday, Dec. 2, and LAPW says they are expected to sell out quickly.

Event proceeds will benefit the LAPW scholarship fund, which provides funding for higher education to eligible recipients in Alexandria and surrounding communities.
