When the winner of the "Biker Dog" costume contest was announced Saturday at Apol’s Harley Davidson in Alexandria, the top dog was no longer wearing its costume. That's because earlier in the day, another dog at the event had managed to rip its Harley Davidson tutu.

However, Misty-Dawn, a year-and-a-half-old purebred German Rottweiler, took it all in stride – including the award.

The dog is owned by Rick and Renae Hyten of Hoffman.

"The event was a big success and we’ve decided it should become an annual event," said John Riek of Apol's, who organized the event.

The costume contest was just one of several facets of Apol's first Dog Days of Summer. In addition to demonstrations and animal-related booths, the dealership was serving up – yes, you guessed it – complementary hot dogs.
