Veterans can fish for free
All veterans can fish for free at Veterans Day on the Lake, sponsored by Let's Go Fishing, on Tuesday, June 18, at Carlos State Park. The event also includes sight-seeing trips and a free lunch.
Trips begin loading from the dock at 10 a.m., followed by lunch at noon, and afternoon fishing and sight-seeing trips from 1-3 p.m.

Girl Scouts host Daisy launch party
Girls heading to kindergarten or first grade in the fall are invited to a Daisy Launch Party organized by Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines.
Girls will explore nature and camping, play games, sing songs and learn about the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girls earn their first patch when they complete this program and will receive a special gift when they sign up to be a Girl Scout Daisy.
Parents and caregivers will learn more about the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and find out
about volunteer opportunities.

55-plus driver improvement program
Drivers age 55 and up can brush up on their skills in June when the Minnesota Highway Safety Center offers its eight-hour driver improvement course in Alexandria.
The course is from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, June 19-20, at Grand Arbor Senior Residence, 4403 Pioneer Road SE.
Instructors provide the latest information about driver safety, new laws and vehicle technology. The course costs $26. It is open to the public; pre-registration is required. Those age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10-percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law.
