The second annual Walk to End Alzheimer's in Alexandria is set for Saturday, Sept. 7, at Alexandria City Park. Registration begins at noon, with the opening ceremony and the walk starting at 1 p.m.

Similar walks are being held throughout the nation, with the goal of raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's and dementia research, education, and programs/services.

There is no fee to register or to participate, and everyone is welcome to attend. In Alexandria, there will be food trucks, a kids' zone, and music by Blonde & the Bohunk.

The walks are fundraising events, with the minimum goal of $100 per person to get a commemorative purple T-shirt. However, officials from the Alzheimer's Association of Minnesota/North Dakota state that fundraising is not mandatory to participate. They would like as many people as possible to get involved, since the disease impacts so many families.
