There's a lot to take in every day at the Douglas County Fair. So much, it seems, that a couple from Granite Falls sought a bench in the shade to rest Thursday afternoon.

It had been around 15 years since Marie Lee-Rude had attended the fair in Alexandria, and the 2019 version compared favorably with her previous visit.

"It's much bigger," she said. "The exhibits are nice, the kids are creative, and they have a lot more things to work with."

The fair opened Wednesday and runs through Saturday.
