The 54th annual Alexandria Rotary and Alexandria Fire Department's Corn and Pork Chop Jubilee is taking place today, Wednesday, Aug. 14 until 7 p.m.

Tickets for the event, which is held at the Alexandria Fire Hall, may be purchased at the door, $10 for adults and $5 for children. Take-out orders are also available.

The annual event is typically held the Wednesday before the Douglas County Fair but the fair started a day earlier this year, the same day as the jubilee. The change didn't seem to affect the lunch crowd at the jubilee as a steady stream of people lined up for pork chops, corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw, bread, pop and a mint.

Besides the food, the jubilee serves as a reunion of sorts as friends, co-workers and families all get together.

Proceeds help fund the Rotary Club's donations to numerous local charities.
