More than 200 painted ladies butterflies were released at Alexandria City Park last Wednesday. The annual release was hosted by Hospice of Douglas County in honor and in memory of those who have passed away this past year.
Hospice of Douglas County supervisor Patty Marriott, along with Hospice chaplain Andrea, addressed the large crowd before the butterflies were released. Music was provided by area musicians Bill Riggs, Terry Kennedy and Al Lieffort.
The painted lady butterflies were ordered especially for the event from a family-owned company in Florida. The butterflies were carefully shipped overnight to Alexandria the day before the event and rested in their individuals envelopes before being released at the park.
