The Alexandria Police Department and the City of Alexandria are joining forces with thousands of other communities across the nation to celebrate the 36th annual National Night Out.

The local "Community Night Out: Growing Stronger by Building Strong Community Partnerships" will take place Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Alexandria City Park from 5 to 7 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the evening of special events planned and organized in a community crime prevention effort that authorities hope will send a strong message about the importance of building strong community partnerships.

A picnic-style meal will be provided for those attending while supplies last. The event is free to attend and includes demonstrations, prizes, an inflatable “Fire Hopper,” equipment on display, games, food and more. There will be a dunk tank with city officials and employees ready to be dunked in an effort to support Special Olympics Minnesota.

The police department joins with the city’s fire department, streets and parks departments, municipal liquor stores, Alexandria Light and Power, North Ambulance and LifeLink III medical helicopter representing the many facets within Alexandria. Providing food for the evening are the Eagles Club, Henry's Foods, Viking Bottling and Culver's.
