Deb and I will be starting our spring class series soon. Please come and join us for one or all of these topics.

We are doing things a little different this time around and you will need to contact Community Education at (320) 762-3310 to register. All classes will be held at the Public Works Conference Room at 526 Willow Drive in Alexandria.

Following are the classes:

Senior Housing Program - Monday, March 28 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Is a change of housing in the future for you or a loved one? Learn about some of the choices in the Alexandria area. After a short informational session at the Public Works Conference Room, we will board a Rainbow Rider bus and visit several senior housing sites. Handouts will be provided. Instructors: Mary Krueger and Sue Kvasager. Cost is $5.

Matter of Balance - Mondays, March 21 through May 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. Reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falling.

People all over the country are taking this class to maintain mobility and independence as they age. Instructors Mary and Peggy are certified Matter of Balance instructors. This program is an original program from Boston University Health and Disability Research Institution. Exercises will begin in the third session. Cost is $9.

The following classes are $5 each or $29 for all seven (including the Matter of Balance class above).

Senior Living Options - Monday, April 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. Learn about all the different options that are available for both in your home and in a different setting.

Health Care Directives - Monday, April 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. What is health care directive? Why might you need one?

Fall Prevention: Ways for Seniors to Reduce Falls - Monday, April 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. Learn about how we can help you prevent the fear of falling and the actual fall itself.

Long Term Care Insurance Partnership with the State of Minnesota - Monday, May 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. This will be a non-biased presentation based on the Minnesota Area Agency on Aging Information.

Reverse Mortgage - Monday, May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. This will be information only. Come and learn the basic information on reverse mortgages.

New to Medicare - Monday, May 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. Are you a "baby boomer" turning 65 soon? Find out when you need to sign up for Medicare, when you can wait and what the letters are about.
