Canoe, kayak or paddleboard to raise money for local museums

The 'One Shoe Canoe' 5K takes place at your own pace between July 23-Aug. 1

The "One Shoe" events continue with the One Shoe Canoe 5K fundraiser for two local museums.

An homage to the rough streets of Alexandria settlement days, when it wasn't uncommon to lose a shoe, the events have involved walking, running and snowshoeing.

Participants complete the events at their own pace. Registration is open now for the canoe event, which will take place between Friday, July 23, and Sunday, Aug. 1.

Paddlers can use canoes, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards and share photos of their journey on social media using #oneshoecanoe.

The cost is $25 per person or $50 per canoe, and all proceeds will be split between the Runestone Museum Foundation and the Legacy of the Lakes Museum. Participants will receive a dry bag while supplies last.

Participants can register at the Runestone Museum Foundation, 206 Broadway in Alexandria, at the Legacy of the Lakes Museum, 205 3rd Ave. W. in Alexandria, or online at legacyofthelakes.org/one-shoe-canoe.

Proceeds will be divided equally between the Runestone Museum Foundation and Legacy of the Lakes Museum.
