Alexandria and Brandon to host blood drives in November

Locations in Douglas County will host blood drives starting Thursday, Nov. 4.

The American Red Cross says it is still trying to overcome an ongoing emergency blood shortage, and asks people to donate blood during one of several upcoming local blood drives.

The organization says that the current blood supply is the lowest the Red Cross has seen this time of year in more than a decade.

Those who donate Nov. 1-12 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Hawaii to see where the series "I Know What You Did Last Summer," was filmed. Those who donate Nov. 1-23 will receive a $10 gift card.

Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and additional precautions – including face masks for donors and staff, regardless of vaccination status – have been implemented to help protect the health of all those in attendance. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at the drive.
