The annual United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties golf tournament took a different form this year to comply with health recommendations restricting large gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The “Anytime Golf Classic” was created to help ensure the health and safety of all golfers and participants, while allowing United Way to continue to raise money to support its programs and local grant recipients.

The tournament opened at Geneva Golf Club on June 15 and ran until Aug. 15. Golfers were able to choose their day (or weather) to play. All scorecards that were completed by Aug. 15 were entered into the tournament.

A total of 15 teams participated over the summer.

The winning team was Servpro with a score of 18-under par. The second place team was Massman, coming in at 9-under par. Several other teams tied for third with scores of 6-under par.

Geneva Golf Club donated free rounds of golf and all golfers who participated were entered for a chance to win. The winners were Steve Black of the Satterly Chicago Connections Team, Todd Stensrud of the Massman Team, Craig Buysse of the Servpro Team and Bob Teclaw of the SunOpta Team.

The United Way thanked the 11 hole sponsors for the event. United Way leaders noted that because of team and sponsor support, the organization is able to continue its fight for the health, education and financial stability for residents in Douglas and Pope counties.
