The Runestone Museum Foundation will host the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce Wake Up Alexandria event on Friday, Sept. 18 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Runestone Museum’s Fort Alexandria at 206 Broadway St.
The event is open to everyone. The $1 admission includes a light breakfast, networking and a chance to win door prizes. All money raised will be donated to the day’s nonprofit recipient, the Douglas County Historical Society. All Chamber members will also be placed in a drawing for the Pot of Gold, which is currently valued at more than $4,550.
The Runestone Museum Foundation has been inspiring curiosity about local history and heritage for more than 50 years. The world famous and controversial Kensington Runestone was the museum’s only artifact when the doors opened in 1958. Since then the museum has grown to include artifacts that relate to Middle-Age Nordic explorers, a Children’s Discovery Room, a 40-foot replica Viking trading ship, a wildlife exhibit, First Peoples exhibit, the open air Fort Alexandria, and more.
