Students attend virtual workshop about saving energy
More than 30 students from New London-Spicer and Minnewaska Area School Youth Eco Solutions (YES!) teams participated in the “Lights! Water! Action!” workshop.
YES! empowers youth to create solutions to ecological challenges through community-based, hands-on projects. The goal of the virtual event was for students to learn about ways to reduce their energy and water footprint, starting at home. Each participant was given an energy kit and survey to complete and return to their teacher as proof of installation.
The survey was created by Jacob Selseth of Clean Energy Resource Teams to walk students through the energy use in their home and help them identify ways to reduce their energy load and water usage.
Dan Tepfer of Kandiyohi Power Cooperative and Ryan Rooney of Runestone Electric Association spoke to the students about how they support energy conservation in the community and why this project is important. They also shared their unique career paths that lead them to be leaders in the field of energy.
