Alexandria's municipal utility, ALP Utilities, is warning customers of callers misrepresenting themselves as being an ALP employee.
These scam calls are being perpetrated by someone who demands payment to avoid service disruption.
ALP Utilities does not make collection phone calls demanding payment, and does not make calls after regular business hours of 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. If a customer is delinquent in payment, notices will be sent by mail, says Megan Chisholm, marketing and communication specialist for ALP.
The utility reminds all customers to never give out banking or credit card information over the phone to an unknown caller, and states that customers should also ask the caller to verify your account number.
Anyone who receives a call such as this is asked to report it by calling the ALP Utilities office at 320-763-6501 and local law enforcement officials immediately.
