Dr. Shan Flatt will be fresh off of her residency in Grand Forks, North Dakota when she starts as Alexandria Clinic’s new family medicine physician on Friday, August 15. Flatt said she is excited to have an established patient base to work with and develop.
The University of North Dakota graduate was drawn to family medicine because of the big picture it offers.

“When you’re able to see the children, the mom, the dad and the grandparents, you get a more complete medical history, and you know the family better, which means better care for everyone,” Flatt said.
A native Minnesotan, Flatt moved to Alexandria with her husband, an athletic trainer at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists, and their 1-year-old daughter.
Flatt has volunteered for MeritCare Children’s Hospital, Planned Parenthood, the YWCA and assisted in Hurricane Katrina clean up in New Orleans.
